Modular Positioning & Assembly System (MPAS)

Versatile and Intuitive

The Modular Positioning & Assembly System (MPAS) has become an industry standard for the accurate and secure positioning of welding assemblies prior to welding.

The MPAS system replaces traditional assembly methods of designing and manufacturing of dedicated jigs which often become obsolete when the production run is finished or when small changes are made to the original design of an assembly.

The MPAS can save you thousands of Rands in production costs of jigs. It will also prove to be a great time saver as the set-up of the MPAS components is intuitive and flexible.

The MPAS comprises of a variety of components working in conjunction with each other to create an unlimited range of fixing positions in 3D space.

The main component is the table. The table surface comes with 16mm holes which is placed along grid patterns with 50mm spacing.

Tooling designed in various shapes and sizes utilizing the same 16mm hole grid patterns with 50 and 25mm spacing is then attached to the welding assembly table surface in such a fashion as to provide accurate fixing locations for clamping.
In conjunction with the table surfaces there are squares, extension blocks, positioners, spacers and special fasteners used to achieve the accurate locating and clamping of any type of material on the MPAS.

The THOR MPAS tables and tooling uses the same basic hole size of 16mm which has become an industry standard. All our tooling is 100% compatible with the components and tooling of other manufacturers.

The 3 basic models of THOR welding tables are the Series-50 which is a light duty table with 50mm support base and no shoulder. The Series-100 being the medium duty tables comes with a 100mm shoulder and has a 100mm support base with 250mm spacing between support base ribs.

The Series-150 is the heavy duty version with 150mm shoulder and support base and comes with 200mm spacing between support base ribs.

Table

The THOR modular assembly table (MAT) comes in a variety of sizes and with the 16mm hole size, spaced 50mm apart, can be used to fix components in 3D space to allow accurate welding of complicated assemblies, ensuring repeatability when processing large orders.

Fasteners

Components to be assembled are accurately placed by means of Positioners being held securely to the table surface with Locating Fasteners.

Fixturing Devices

THOR Welding Innovations supply a range of different fixturing devices in many different sizes allowing the user the flexibility to place components in 3D space.

Clamps

The standard 16mm hole size makes it possible to use the clamps of other manufacturers.

THOR Welding Innovations supply StrongHand Tools clamps.
